Reorganization and insolvency process begins for Pullmantur Cruceros.
A message from Jason Liberty:
Hello, everyone,
I want to share some important news about our Pullmantur Cruceros brand.
After discussions with Cruises Investment Holding, our majority partner in the Pullmantur Cruceros joint venture, the owners made the difficult decision to begin a reorganization and insolvency process for Pullmantur Cruceros.
Pullmantur Cruceros employees were notified of the decision today by the management team in Madrid.
The economic headwinds of the Covid-19 pandemic made Pullmantur Cruceros’ continuing operation untenable. We are sorry for the impact this decision will have on the brand’s employees, crew members and loyal guests.
Most Pullmantur employees have already been furloughed and most crew members have already been released from their contracts. Crew aboard ships are well along in the repatriation process, and we have plans for their safe return home. Pullmantur sailings have been suspended until November 15.
Following an exploration of available options, this was deemed the only viable path forward for the joint venture. It’s a painful decision, made even more painful by the fact that, after hard work by Richard Vogel and his team on a turnaround, the brand ended 2019 on an upswing.
Pullmantur Cruceros will communicate directly with its employees, guests and crew as the company goes through this process.
It is also important that I add that this decision does not signal any kind of financial difficulty for RCL. If anything, it will help our financials and we had already accounted for the impact of this decision in our most recent quarterly financials.
Even so, this is hard news to share, and it’s a good day to reach out to our friends in Madrid and aboard the Pullmantur fleet and let them know we are thinking about them.
